Get to Know KXT 91.7 - Oct 9th

As you read this, I'll be en route to the Austin City Limits Festival, a huge 3-day concert of more than 150 bands from almost every genre of music.

In past years, ACL has featured some pretty big headliners and, as one would expect, filled the rest of the bill with promising emerging artists. The latter was most often comprised of groups I remotely knew, if I'd heard of them at all. This year, however, I'm struck by the number of bands whose names I not only know, but also their music.

I credit this new-found familiarity to the launch of Dallas radio station KXT 91.7, the music-focused spin-off of KERA 90.1, our local public radio station.

The station hit the air last November and has since very nearly replaced my iPod as music source of choice.
In the next couple of weeks, KXT 91.7 will begin its pledge drive. If you haven't yet checked out the station, take a moment (or an afternoon) to do so this weekend. I think you'll agree we can all spare a couple of dollars to support an organization making a solid contribution to the music scene in and around Dallas - and bless 'em, they do it commercial-free.

See you tomorrow, and don't forget to check out the ads over there ----->>>
