2Fer - Rally To Restore Sanity and ART HEIST - Oct. 30th

The Rally To Restore Sanity/The March to Keep Fear Alive, hosted by Jon Stewart & Stephen Colbert is being held in Washington D.C. today from 11:00am until 2:00pm central.

If heading to D.C. puts a cramp in your plans for enjoying part II of today's post and you still want to show your support for restoring sanity and reason to civil discourse, fret not.

Lee Harvey's, the south Dallas super dive, has your back.

They're opening early and broadcasting a simulcast of the event, providing a forum for your participation.  You're even encouraged to bring a sign reflecting your sane or satirical point of view.

After the D.C. events end, Dallas' own take over with Dallas City Council member Angela Hunt, Human Rights Initiative Award winner Bill Holston, and intellectual satirist Rawlins Gilliland as guest speakers.

Personal point of interest: Wilco's Jeff Tweedy performs with Mavis Staples from the D.C. event at 12:40pm central.

Lee Harvey's
10:30am - 3:00pm

The Emergency Artists' Support League, EASL, provides emergency funding for D/FW area visual artists and arts professionals who, in a time of crisis, may have nowhere else to turn.  EASL is the only group in North Texas that directly helps visual artists in need.

To raise funds for their mission they offer the ART HEIST.

For the price of admission, you have an open bar, food and the opportunity to walk out red-handed with a piece of art from one of over 150 artists. You can also enter a raffle for other great prizes and more artwork.

Ticket information and a preview of some of the donated artworks are available on the EASL website. Check it!

TEXAS RANGERS WATCHING PARTIES - Oct. 27th

Tonight every sports bar in town is going to be showing the Texas Rangers take Game 1 of the World Series in the same dominant fashion they showed in the ALCS.
But what if a sports bar isn't your scene and you still want to get out for the game?

I've done some scouting and put together a roster of venues hosting watching parties that are sure to add some heat to your bullpen and make the most of your away game:

GO RANGERS!!!

214-824-9933

214-978–BLUE

Studio Movie Grill - all locations
214- 751-3980

214-969-9463

All of the venues have specials tonight, hit them up directly for details!

See you tomorrow!

Giveaway:
365 Things Dallas has passed the 200 followers mark on Facebook. I am pretty pleased with that milestone, considering we are little more than a month old.
To move things to the next level, we will conduct a special giveaway when we reach 365 followers. Help us out by hitting the "Suggest to Friends" button on the 365 Things Dallas Facebook page.
When we reach that number, we'll randomly pick a winner from among the followers.  Simple Enough.

Trinity River Audubon Center - Oct. 26th

As you may have heard, the Trinity River Corridor is being re-made. While I haven't found all the information I need to be able to wrap my head around some of the details (like where is the water going to come from?), one part is completed and up and running.
The Trinity River Audubon Center, located eight minutes south of downtown Dallas, provides a unique opportunity to see a wide variety of widelife in its natural habitat and enjoy the outdoors while the weather is still so great.  In the future the center will be connected to the rest of the Dallas trail system.

Something for Triva Night: At 6,000 acres, the Great Trinity Forest, where the center is located, is the largest urban hardwood forest in the United States.

You know you wanna!

Worldfest - Oct. 24th

What would it be like if the Travel Channel were to come to life and you could live for a day like Anthony Bourdain?

Well, Addison plays host to just such an adventure today with WORLDFEST. The event suggests you "travel the world in a weekend" and delivers all you could ask for in such a whirlwind world tour.

Your passport is first stamped in Morocco, with a stop in the Moroccan Village for shopping and an invite to a  wedding. Then it's off to Australia for some history and a look at the local wildlife. Afterwards, we use our EuroRail pass for visits to Bulgaria, Poland, Italy and Spain.  This is followed by the Asian continent, with colorful stops in India, China and ultimately Japan for a traditional Tea Ceremony.

All of these excursions include sight-seeing and plenty of time for dining with the whole family.

Bon Voyage!

TEXAS RANGERS / The Nodding Donkey - Oct. 22nd

History is being made right now

The Texas Rangers are 1, maybe 2 games away from being in the World Series for the first time. Even if they don't win, this is as far as they've made it 39 years. (But they are going to make it!!! Cliff Lee = AWESOME!!!)

Creating their own history is The Nodding Donkey, in Uptown. Billed as a 'Texas Sports Saloon' and brought to you by the folks from State & Allen, The Donkey, as it's sure to be called, features 18 screens to soothe your sports-starved soul. They even have a 3D TV, if you're wishing you'd bought tickets to the game.

For nourishment of another sort, check out the menu - I describe it as "Dean Fearing meets the State Fair of Texas." Exhibit A:  The Big Ole' Bacon-Wrapped Kobe Hot Dog.

The Nodding Donkey has only been open for a couple of days and is already getting great reviews - so if it's your destination tonight for the Rangers game, get there early!

Hey, Punkin - Oct. 21st

It's fall. Lawns no longer require the weekly mow. We're afforded more time for leisurely strolls with ______, taking in seasonally-themed vistas and enjoying the weather.

A particularly fun way to do all three is by visiting a local pumpkin patch.

If you're taking the kids along - or just want to act like one yourself - try the Flower Mound Pumpkin Village. This patch has more activities for kids of all ages than any other I've seen. Hay Rides, Petting Zoo, Pony Rides, Ferris Wheel, Carousel Swing, Barrel Train, Bounce Houses...and, the not-to-be-missed Punkin Chunkin!!!
